Field Notes

An opening note

By Barry Poznick

Why we're publishing here, and what to expect when we do.

We launched this site without a news section, deliberately. A blog you don't update is worse than no blog at all.

Field Notes is the alternative. It exists for the things that don't fit anywhere else on the site, and it will only appear when there's something genuinely worth writing down. A few times a year, probably. Sometimes less. The work has to come first.

When a piece does land here, it will be a single editorial read — short, signed, and written by hand. Format announcements and trade-press hits belong on the About page or in the trades, not buried in a feed. What lives here will be closer to a letter: a take on the unscripted business, a lesson from a season that went sideways, a note from a stage I just stepped off of.

The first one is just this, a marker. A signal that the page exists and a reminder of what it is for. The second will mean more, because by the time you read it, this one will have been here for a while.

More soon, when there's something to say.
